Sculpture, like most artistic practices, has been a historically male-dominated field. Not any more.
When you think of sculpture, you might picture Michaelangelo’s David, or the Great Sphinx of Giza. If your art historical knowledge is a bit more up-to-date, you might think of Barbara Hepworth’s nature-ispired minimalistic masterpieces. But for many of us, it’s much harder to name as many contemporary sculptors we love as it is to name contemporary painters or illustrators.
So here are 11 of our favourite contemporary sculptors who are pushing boundaries, bringing sculpture to new audiences, and creating award-winning art that we also want to put in our dream house.
