Many talented illustrators and other creatives contributed to The Boobs: Art for Breast Cancer project, aiming to raise money and awareness for breast cancer charities. The book is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter by new non-profit art book imprint HappyLuja (love that name!), featuring original works by almost 100 international artists playing around with the theme. Beyond the brilliantly boobies on pink background main cover, artworks from Genie Espinosa to Sebastian Curi, Catalina Vásquez and Yeye Weller can be found – each designed in “honour and praise of all women”.
And Boom! Directed by Hannah Lau-Walker, a short film to promote the publication, was made by a team of 14 female animators, using artwork by 14 female artists featured in the book, and exec produced by Julia Parfitt with an all-female production team at Nexus, with a soundtrack by composers Neighbourhood Jukebox at Sister Music.
Nexus says in a statement that the project aims to catch the attention of women of all ages and backgrounds, using humour to encourage women to recognise the importance of breast health. Around 600,000 people die every year from breast cancer.
Boobs: Art for Breast Cancer is currently running a Kickstarter campaign which please you guys can support here, helping to publish the book in March 2021.
Do good, feel good – especially in a year like that.
