Feature 18 May 2026

Welcome to the Art Girl Fax newsletter, where we explore the intersection of art, fashion, and pop culture.
This week, culture feels increasingly immersive: toys become status symbols, museums turn cinematic, and luxury brands expand into full-scale cultural ecosystems. Somewhere between football fandom, exhibition design, and Venice Biennale spectacle, the boundaries between art, branding, entertainment, and identity continue to dissolve.
After weeks of openings, launches, and algorithmic overstimulation, this is your curated pause: fresh highlights, unexpected gems, and the stories shaping the moment.

⚽👾 LABUBU GOES FOOTBALL: PSG × POP MART

The internet’s favorite chaotic little creature officially entered football culture: Labubu appeared on limited-edition Paris Saint-Germain jerseys, merging collector culture, luxury streetwear, and global sports fandom into one highly meme-able object.
What started as an underground toy obsession has now fully crossed into fashion and lifestyle territory, proving once again that collectible culture is becoming one of the strongest visual languages of the moment. Somewhere between kawaii mascot, fashion accessory, and status object, Labubu now feels less like a toy and more like a form of cultural currency.
The collaboration also reflects a wider shift toward what might be called “cute capital” — where emotional attachment, internet aesthetics, and collectible design become powerful luxury strategies.

🎭 ES DEVLIN REIMAGINES THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

Artist and stage designer Es Devlin transformed London’s National Portrait Gallery into an immersive environment exploring memory, identity, and collective experience.
Known for creating monumental stage worlds for everyone from Beyoncé to major opera productions, Devlin continues to blur the boundaries between exhibition design, theater, installation art, and emotional architecture. Rather than simply displaying portraits, the exhibition invites visitors into a sensory narrative where sound, light, movement, and spatial design become part of the storytelling itself.
The project reflects a broader museum shift away from static viewing formats toward experiences that feel cinematic, participatory, and emotionally choreographed.

🚤 Zegna, LV und Co – VENICE BIENNALE OR LUXURY BRAND ACTIVATION?

As the art world once again floods into Venice for Biennale week, fashion houses are no longer simply sponsoring collateral events — they’re increasingly shaping the cultural atmosphere itself. From Bulgari’s long-term Biennale partnership and ZEGNA’s support of the Italian Pavilion to artist talks hosted by Bottega Veneta and major exhibitions backed by Fondazione Prada and Louis Vuitton, luxury brands are treating art less as a side project and more as long-term cultural infrastructure. This year, the Italian Pavilion — presented under the title Con te con tutto by artist Chiara Camoni and curated by Cecilia Canziani — explores ideas of coexistence, transformation, and the relationship between humans and nature, positioning ZEGNA not simply as a sponsor, but as an active participant in contemporary cultural discourse. The result? Venice increasingly feels like a hybrid between biennial, fashion week, and immersive brand universe — where tastemaking itself becomes the main spectacle. In many ways, the city has become the ultimate stage for culture-driven branding.
