To celebrate Black History Month, Adidas tapped photographer Micaiah Carter to shoot a series of portraits of New York-based creative heads. Carter is known for creating images that capture the beauty of blackness. “I want to create a new perspective while reaching in the past for inspiration and guidance. I want to create images that compel black stories and cultures and ‘stereotypes’ and create moods and environments that are almost unworldly within the context of blackness.”
The chosen models include Kai Avent-de Leon or Sage Adams and little boards placed next to their portraits give an insight into each trailblazer`s individual bio. The wall-sized images are shown to the public in an intimate gallery rubbing shoulders with archival pieces of the sportswear giant – like Run DMC’s original Stan Smiths. The set up of the past and present stimulates a visual dialogue that enhances the conversation.
