Art through the eye of BBC’s Art Babe
Art critic, presenter and curator, London
Aindrea Emelife has quickly gone on to become a groundbreaking new voice on the art scene – “gallery hopping and shoe shopping” are her Twitter proclaimed hobbies. Her enthusiasm for art is in her blood and her pop-culture perspective enables her to engage wide and diverse audiences with everything art related.
While dedicating her time to the development of her first art documentary for mainstream television, Aindrea is simultaneously contributing to several exhibitions through both curation and academic writings such as her recent catalogue essay for the one of the world’s top art collections’ – Zabludowicz Collection – latest publication on Keith Tyson.
Having written for and worked with the Royal Academy of Arts, the V&A Museum, the Courtauld Gallery, The Guardian, Artsy and Vice and many more, she is an inspiring example of a passionate young woman proving that a young age is no obstacle to reach high level goals.
We caught up with the freelance art critic, curator, and presenter to discuss how she’s got so far so fast…
In the art world currently I find most exciting that…
Young women are coming to the fore and dominating – as collectors, artists, gallerists and entrepenuers.
Number of unanswered mails in your account…
94. Pretty sure some of them are memes though.
My perfect working outfit…
Bodycon dress with heeled biker boots. I’m constantly dashing around heading for meetings and like something that I can rush around town in then drop into an impromptu PV or unexpected drinks or dinner. That, or pajamas, for those days when I’m writing at home. Sometimes from bed.
My favourite new brand discovery…
Joshua Kane. I mostly wear dresses but I’m dying for a custom tailored suit!
My everyday online art read is…
My Facebook feed. Most of my friends work in art so the shared articles I see is a pretty comprehensive guide of whats going on.
My necessary extravagance is…
days off being foolish.
Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever bought…
I’ve had more ridiculous things given to me but those are my little secrets.
My ultimate secret after long working hours…
A glass of Prosecco and a long telephone call with someone special.
My favourite collaboration of the art- and fashion world…
Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton
My favourite hashtag…
#KITTENS
On my office table I always have…
Sweeties! Gummy bear incentives are the best way to get through dull admin days.
The most arty city is…
London. Because its my hometown and I have my inner art map down! But I’d like to explore LA.
Who are the best dressed in the art world…
Maureen Paley’s Bouffant wins every time.
Art world gent I would love to have lunch with…
Shaun McDowell
Artist(s) we should have on our watch list is/are…
Tschabalala Self, Siobhan Hapaska, Florence Peake, Nathan Cash Davidson and Jacolby Satterwhite.
