When The Artistic Prodigy Is Working On A Large Painting With Her Dad
Artist, Munich
Just after her graduation from Academy of Fine Arts Munich, Alina Maria Birkner transpired in the scene, and overwhelmed the world with the “I’m a rainbow, too” paintings, the Exhibit A of her conscientious crackerjack skills and that endowed smarts. Amiable, and assiduous, Alina apprenticed with the esteemed Toulouse-born French artist Jean-Marc Bustamnte noted for his conceptual installation. Alina, jutting out among the emerging creative minds, had her first solo show this year at Centercourt Gallery – a girl of natural artistic bent!
In this Style File, we chatted with Alina about the getting-you-hooked yet bizarre Tumblr account and wearing the Cartier watch that is of same age as her.
What does your ideal working outfit look like?
A shirt and old pants or leggings. Usually something I am not very fond of – painting is messy.
What’s best: heels or flats? Which brand or style?
Both. I like Dr. Martens in winter and ankle boots.
What’s your favorite art-related blog or app?
Great Art in Ugly Rooms.
What was the last thing you bought and loved?
A pair of flared Levi’s Jeans.
What is/are your personal style signifier(s)/identifier(s)?
I love silk shirts and everything grunge.
What’s your necessary extravagance?
I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, but I always wear my Cartier watch from 1989. We are of the same age.
Three things/products you always need to have in your purse?
Lipstick and lip liner and a little Notebook.
What’s you ultimate beauty secret after long working hours?
Relax, meditate, do some yoga.
What’s/are your favourite work(s) of art?
James Turrell’s Skyspaces.
What in the art world excites you currently most?
Art that examines the interaction of light and colour excites me the most.
Most sexiest art person?
There are many I believe! To me strong men and women who are not afraid to show their vulnerability are sexy, who can embrace their own version of femininity/ masculinity and think independently.
Where are you off to next?
My father and I are currently working on a very large painting for a museum. We paint there almost every day.
Where is your next art trip/travel going to?
The Venice Biennale.
In your eyes: what is the most arty city?
In my eyes Florence. I adore Michelangelo.
Someone you have in mind to call the perfect artworld gentlemen?
I have yet to meet him.
Which artist should we have on our watchlist?
I like Evie Falci and Alexander Tovborg.
