As Art Basel is fast approaching, and flocks of art world heavy hitters descend onto the small Suisse city, we have put together a handy guide of what to pack for a day at the art fair.
Location x Theme
An art fair essentials quick poll via Forbes to an index of art world contacts recently revealed a pleasantly surprising diverse array of responses. From spare cigarettes, and a journal, to a pair of binoculars …
Firstly, packing for a day at an art fair will depend on several factors, including the weather, the general theme, and the location. So, pre-plan around these components and think smart!
Comfortable shoes
You will likely be doing a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes that provide adequate support. Or if you are keen to show off those killer new heels, pack a pair of flats so you can make it home in one piece. Plasters may also be needed for painful pieds.
Beauty x Healthcare Essentials
If the art fair is outdoors, you will want to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. If you are someone who wears makeup, pack a mini kit of top-up essentials. And, if you are likely to enjoy a glass of bubbles or 10 – pack some paracetamol for a painful head – ouch.
Water bottle + snacks
You will be on your feet for a long time, so staying hydrated and fuelled throughout the day is important, so bring a refillable water bottle and some healthy snacks (if the fair allows) to keep you going.
Business Cards x Journal
If you are someone who likes to hand out business cards, make sure you are well-stocked. And, if you are a traditional type, then pack your trusty journal and pen. If not, make sure you pack a portable charger – so you can make sure your phone is well boosted for note taking and pics.
