Art played a huge role in the Autumn/Winter 23 shows that took place this month – with artists being commissioned by eminent designers to complement their runway scenes with work that strengthened their concepts.

Here are our top 3 fashion x art collaborations on the runway:

Loewe x Lara Favaretto
Italian artist Lara Favaretto, known for her sculptures and site-based works that play on the temporal, placed 21 sculptural cubes on Loewe’s runway this season. The blocks, named “momentary monuments” were formed by tightly compressing confetti for several hours. Unsecured by glue or armatures the minimalist sculptures reinforced the idea of impermanence that complemented the theme of designer Jonathan Anderson’s collection.

Miu Miu x Geumhyung Jeong
Korean artist Geumhyung Jeong collaborated with Miu Miu to explore the relationship between her own body and clothing. The artist conceived a video that played on numerous screens for the brand’s fall show at the Palais d’Iena. The materials used for the décor of the Miu Miu show found new life after the event thanks to LA RÉSERVE DES ARTS, a non-profit association that supports the cultural and creative sector in the development of the circular and solidarity economy.

Dior x Joana Vasconcelos
An epic textile installation by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos set the backdrop of Dior’s AW23 show in Paris. The site-specific, kaleidoscopic fabric-filled installation dubbed ‘Valkyrie Miss Dior’ infused floral textiles inspired by the House’s archives. The artistic installation doubles as a relational exploration between monumental sculpture, human bodies, and inhabited clothing.
