Paris Fashion Week’s menswear edition came and went like a flash in the city of lights. As luminaires showed up and fashion bloggers posed endlessly for Instagram, there were few art world connections, but we were there to take note of them.
Here are a few top ones you missed.
Virgil Abloh’s historic moment at Louis Vuitton
Besides photographing the latest womenswear line in a Le Corbusier building, Virgil stole the spotlight at PFW for his Louis Vuitton debut. But esides the clothes and Kanye appearance was the 200-meter-long rainbow gradient runway, which was a lot like a color field painting by Rothko–or even Olafur Elaisson’s famous rainbow-hued sculpture in Denmark, the rainbow panorama.
Newly minted performance artist A$AP Rocky does three outfit changes in a day
If you didn’t hear, the famed New York rapper is also a performance artist who did a Lab Rat performance at Sotheby’s a few weeks back. He dropped into PFW to pull another performance – an outfit change 3x in one day. This was our fave, a bit Raggedy Ann doll look.
Gagosian Paris opened the Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh exhibition
Just when you thought you were on Abloh overload, the DONDA Agency director strikes again with “TECHNICOLOR 2” an exhibition and t-shirt sale at Gagosian Paris. Though it already debuted in London, this new version offers new limited-edition wares, so grab them while they last.
Kim Jones putting KAWS in his Dior Hommes debut
Kim Jones’ debut for Dior Homme featured street artist turned international sculptor KAWS to do the set for the show, which added fun, sass and a ton of pink.
Victoria Beckham teams up with Sotheby’s
Thought this didn’t happen at PFW, it was announced here. Ahead of the next Old Masters sale at Sotheby’s, the Spice Girl turned designer Victoria Beckham is hosting a mini exhibition of her favorite works on July 4-5, alongside her pre-Autumn 2018 collection as part of Mayfair Art Weekend in London. Catch it while you can.
