Dancing and gallery hopping are two of our favourite hobbies. Any opportunity to combine them both under one roof feels like Christmas. Artist Lotte Andersen knows exactly where the party’s at, throwing “dance therapy” performances across London, which are less “therapy” and more fun.
The “therapy” sessions have taken place at many locations, which include the Tate Modern. Having first taken place at Guest Projects, the performance asks its participants to dance inside an image studio to their favourite song. She then photographs them. These “capture parties” then become part of multi-channel video installations, allowing the participants to then become viewers, with themselves becoming the subject of the work.
Andersen is a huge advocate of club culture, with dance therapy having been inspired by MAXILLA, a club night and zine previously run by the artist.
