The Art of Banksy exhibition recently opened in Toronto, featuring over 80 artworks by the anonymous street artist who has taken the art world by storm. There was apparent footage of a man entering the space and taking the piece Trolley Hunter, valued at $30,000 and running off.
But is it a fake publicity stunt? Some of the YouTube comments are super sceptical, ranging from “It’s a Banksy, its allowed to be stolen” to “You expect people to believe this? More like a publicity stunt because attendance is non-existent.”
Who knows? Another commenter added: “Total publicity stunt and or insurance fraud. Surrounding cameras, street cameras, any on the rail path? As soon as I heard it on the radio, and I didn’t even see this video I thought it was a media stunt. It worked.”
