Gucci’s
latest coup is a homage to the sci-fi genre of the 1950’s. Wild settings, a mixed cast of humanoids, aliens and robots and colorful, trippy clothes create a surreal, psychedelic atmosphere.

Sankuanz already dedicated its last season’s collection, a collaboration with artist Xu Zhen, with NASA logo patches and metallic survival blankets made from tech fabrics like Cuben Fiber. Xu Zhen said he wanted to combine elements of science and religion. Is space technology some sort of religion for us? Since we can no longer find satisfaction on earth and there seems no magic left, because everything seems to be so scientifically proven or man-made.

It might be that the fascination for everything celestial and supernatural is caused by the side effects of the digital age we live in. Maybe fashion designers realized that symbols of the universe, like stars and space rockets, evoke a certain kind of feeling in us: a feeling of endlessness.
The Mars Yard shoes designed by artist Tom Sachs for NIKECraft may not enable us to fly to the moon, co-developed by Tommaso Rivellini, a mechanical engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

The galactic trend definitely climaxed when K. Lagerfeld catapulted the whole Fashion World on a space journey with a life-size Chanel rocket-ship in the center of Chanel’s Fall 2017 runway show inside Paris’s Grand Palais. There seems to be a common sense about galactic fashion items and if you cannot afford a trip to Mars with Richard Branson, this is the best way to reach for the stars.
