Recently, Vanity Fair toured the Hollywood home of Tina Knowles Lawson, who revealed that Beyoncé and Solange got their love of art from their mom.
Tina bought her first work of art when she was a makeup artist in the 1980s and paid only $500 for prints and small paintings, now, she owns a rich collection of African American art featuring artists like Romare Bearden and Elizabeth Catlett, as well as Genevieve Gaignard and Toyin Ojih Odutola.
She told Vanity Fair: “When my kids were growing up, it was really important to me that they saw images of .” Her sprawling art collection includes works by Henry Ossawa Tanner, Hale Woodruff, Charles Alston, Kermit Oliver, Monica Stewart, John Biggers, and Dominique Beyoncé, who is Lawson’s niece.
