In Case You Missed It: What Happened in Art, Fashion, Pop Culture
Chanel Opens First Shoe-Only Store; Maddie Ziegler Debuts Clothing Line; Abercrombie & Fitch Sto...
Entertainment 21 Nov 2016

It was a week of ups and downs for many lifestyle companies. The tongue-in-cheek cosmetic brand Too Faced was bought by Estée Lauder last week. Such a change has got loyal Too Faced fans worrying about the brand’s vow to produce cruelty-free makeup. Meanwhile, trouble is on the horizon for Abercrombie & Fitch. Major stores in Asia including Hong Kong and Seoul are expected to be closed down due to a sink in sales.
Contrarily, things are starting to look up for leading luxury fashion labels. Ferragamo has a new creative and design trio, while Chanel and Loewe are both expanding their empires.
More details below…
#1  14-year-old Dancer Maddie Ziegler Is Now a Designer
The dancing sensation behind Sia’s music videos, Maddie Ziegler can now add “designer” to her CV along with dancer, actor and model! The young teen has recently debuted her eponymous new clothing line inspired by actress Millie Bobby Brown, who played “Eleven” in the popular hit series “Stranger Things”. With over 30 piece available, the collection hints towards a “tom boyish” feel with casual denim, comfy and stretchy joggers, and sweatshirts.
#2   Trouble ahead for Abercrombie & Fitch?
Ever since A&F’s launch, it rapidly rose to prominence, attracting all teens and young adults. How could it not? It offered casual yet stylish clothes and fit half-naked men on billboards who also stood at the entrance of each store.  Yet, like any shooting star, the hype quickly fades away. According to various news sources, A&F ’s sales are in serious decline, sinking to 13 percent for the third quarter, possibly due to their incapability to rebrand.
#3  An All Chanel Footwear Boutique Has Opened?
Chanel's first shoe-only store opened in Ala Moana, Hawaii.
Chanel fanatics rejoice! The luxury label has recently inaugurated its very first shoe-only store in Hawaii, expected to measure up to 1,100-square-foot. This is what we call shoe heaven! #thisisreal
#4  Princess Diana’s Wardrobe to be Exhibited at Kensington Palace
Next year, Kensington Palace will unveil a select number of Princess Diana’s most iconic dresses in tribute to the 20th anniversary of her death in 1997. Titled “Diana: Her Fashion Story”, the exhibition will run for two years spotlighting her evolving style and her relationship with famed designers. Mark February 24 2017 in your diaries, girls! This is a must-see!
#5  Ferragamo’s New Design Trio
After Massimiliano Giornetti left the company in March, three designers took over the creative reins. According to Fashionista, Fulvio Rigonia and Guillaume Meilland have been appointed womenswear design director, and menswear design director respectively. Meanwhile, Paul Andrew is expected to remain as design director of women’s footwear.
#6  Casa Loewe Es Su Casa en Madrid
Until a few days ago, Loewe has opened up a new store in Madrid named “Casa Loewe”, located in the Salamanca district. The new shop will feature the new retail design concept conceived by the label’s creative director Jonathan Anderson. Spread out across three floors, measuring up to 930-square-meters, the venue will additionally house art works by Edmund de Waal, Richard Smith, Gloria Garcia, and Sir Howard Hodgkin.
