London`s Design Museum just released the official date for the major retrospective on Azzedine Alaïa next May. The world-renowned fashion designer has started to work on it closely with guest curator Mark Wilson who also serves as chief curator of the Groninger Museum before he passed away last month at the age of 77.
The news of Alaïa`s passing was all over social media since celebrities as well as leading voices of fashion and arts were deeply saddened of the news.
On show from May 10–October 7, 2018, “Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier” will span his 35-year career, presenting several dozens couture works that the maestro himself personally selected for the exhibition. The exhibition is expected to draw a huge number of visitors, as his direct involvement in the show was literally one of the designer’s last projects.
The exhibition will also feature several design pieces and artworks, such as by the designers Konstantin Grcic and Marc Newson, or the artist Kris Ruhs, whom Alaïa commissioned for his large-scale installation called The Hanging Garden.
