Burning Man is known to be the mecca for hippie-esque party goers. Roughly 75,000 people venture out in Nevada’s Black Rock desert every summer to dance, party and frolic for the annual music festival. More than just a place to dance, the fest brings public art every year. Now, a new exhibition which recently opened at the Smithsonian American Art Museum puts the best Burning Man art on view until January 21, 2019. No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man features sculptures by artists David Best, Candy Chang, Marco Cochrane, and others. As the curator Nora Atkinson says: “Two of the ten principles of Burning Man are radical participation and radical inclusivity, meaning that there are no outsiders. Everyone is part of the experience.”
