A five-storey-high penis mural in New York’s Lower East Side just got painted over only days after its appearance – to the disappointment of neighbours who started to like it.
The towering painting in the NYC’s Lowe East Side was created by Swedish bad-ass artist Carolina Falkholt and took her just a few hours to complete on Christmas Eve. While some people found it problematic to be seen by children, many residents of the neighbourhood liked it for keeping with the area’s rough-and-ready nature.
According to NBC, the landlord did not give the artist permission to create the work and by Wednesday afternoon a team of painting contractors had arrived to set up scaffolding to paint over it.
The piece was commissioned by a street art foundation called The New Allen.
The artist pointed out that sexual abuse are “constantly happening” and that “talking about these subjects in public space is a must for a healthy, nonviolent world.”
