Murakami, Sherman and Ruby to Sell Work to Save Notre Dame
Gagosian Paris has announced that they will soon organise an exhibition made up of donations by artists including Takashi Murakami, Cindy Sherman, Sterling Ruby, Jenny Saville, Richard Serra and more, who have made artworks especially for the show. All proceeds will go to the Friends of Notre Dame de Paris and the show will run between 11 June and 27 July 2019.
Brad Pitt Visits the Venice Biennale
After hitting up Cannes Film Festival, everyone’s favourite hunk hit up Venice for an art fix. So it seems there was an extra work of art to be viewed during this summer’s must-see biennial.
Gucci Showcases Politically Inspired Collection with Help from Mickey Mouse
Gucci’s 2020 Cruise runway show took place in Rome, debuting pieces around freedom of choice. Alessandro Michele used cartoons on the brand’s signature GG monogram covered pieces, as well as showing garments with slogans including My Body, My Choice splashed all over them.
Louvre Shuts Down
Employee’s of the Louvre in Paris went on strike on Monday over staff shortages. The union demanded more employees be hired to help with overcrowding. The museum offered refunds to visitors who had bought tickets for the day and subsequently reopened.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Memorial to be Held at Grand Palais
It has been reported that Fendi and Chanel will team up to host a memorial for the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. The Karl For Ever memorial will include photographs and videos of the designer, as well as dance, music and theatre performances. The invitation only event will be held on 20 June during Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
Larry Gagosian Breaks Up with Long-Term Girlfriend
Art world giant Larry Gagosian – of the Gagosian Gallery – has reportedly split with his longtime girlfriend Chrissie Erpf, who is also a director of the gallery. Page six reports that he’s moved on with a younger woman.
Egon Schiele Plays Where’s Wally at the Airport
Portrait of Wally, a 1912 painting by Egon Schiele turned up at Vienna Airport on the luggage carousel. The video shared on twitter showed a crate labeled by Austrian art handlers, causing quite a stir. In fact, it was a clever PR ploy by the Leopold Museum to get people to visit the institution.
