Ever fantasise about doing sweet FA for a living? Well now your dream could become a reality thanks to the Swedish artist duo Simon Goldin and Jakob Senneby. The artists who won a competition to contribute to a new station’s design in Sweden back in 2017 have called the conceptual art project the Eternal Employment. And they are looking for a lucky candidate to take part.
The position will be based in the country’s new train station, Korsvägen, in the city of Gothenburg. All the winning candidate must do is simply clock in and out during allocated hours. “The position holds no duties or responsibilities, other than that it should be carried out at Korsvägen,” reads the job description. “Whatever the employee chooses to do constitutes the work.” The employee will be rewarded with a competitive salary of around £1,750 a month, plus holiday leave, a pension and annual wage increases ( reported by Mother Nature Network). Plus, it’s open to any nationality, not just Swedes. The chosen candidate can leave or retire if they want to otherwise it is a position with permanent job security. The only catch is that the job doesn’t start until 2026, when Korsvägen station is completed and the station opens to the public.
The art project and the lucky candidates job is intended to signify the world’s growing inequality. This is because it’s funded on just capital investment, something that’s predicted to surpass wage increases for an average job in Sweden. It will also be an “anti-performance of indefinite duration. A single person with no script, no climax, no crescendo. Forever”.
