This French Artist Paints Fake Vogue Covers
Natacha Paschal on fashion magazines and her favourite reads
Art x Style 19 Dec 2019

Artist Natacha Paschal takes limitless inspiration from glossy fashion magazines and luxury brand advertisements, which she reproduces in paint within her own versions of our favourite fashion magazines. With pink lips, exaggerated expressions and thick lashings of mascara, Natacha’s characters are her interpretation of mainstream culture, as well as a funny comment on contemporary society. We spoke to Natacha about her inspirations, and of course, her favourite fashion magazines.

Playboy or Vogue?
Vogue during the day, Playboy during the night 😉

What’s the first print brand advertisement that inspired your work?
Every one of them who was too serious and first degree inspire me to take it as a base for my work. Then I started to paint the Fake Vogue Cover.

What is the coolest fashion magazine cover you remember?
I love the concept of each blinking eyes cover of i-D Magazine.

Who is your favourite fashion model?
I think Adwoa Aboah is stunning and I love her feminist fight.

What would be your dream commission by a magazine/brand?
To collaborate on the construction of a true fake Magazine. From A to Z.

Which magazines do you read?
The new generation of independent contemporary fashion magazines is amazing, I love POP, GARAGE, WONDERLAND, TANK, PYLOT, THE GENTLEWOMAN and much more.

Do you still believe in print magazines?
Yes for the love of the object and the meditative relaxed state I feel while reading them, time flys differently then and inspiration comes otherway.

Who is your perfect cover girl and muse?
Maybe Kim K. and her very personal way to serve champagne for PAPER magazine…

Which magazine is still missing on the market?
A magazine for ecoresponsable-fashion-funny-yogis
