Who knew that one dump truck of plastic is thrown into our oceans every minute? That statistic was jarring to Canadian artist, designer and author Douglas Coupland, who hand-picked trash from the British Columbia coastline with local non-profit orgs for his upcoming project opening at the Vancouver Aquarium on May 18. Expect to see a colorful collection of plastic on view, which has been curated and modified by the artist. “I’ve been collecting consumer plastics for two decades and using them as art materials. Plastic is at once beautiful yet ugly; seductive yet toxic,” said Coupland. “It’s an installation focused on highlighting the human fascination with plastic and the challenges it’s posing to the oceans.”
