Gucci Takes a Trip to Sicilian Ruins
Italian megabrand shoots Pre-Fall 19 Campaign in Selinunte Archaeological Park
Entertainment 25 Apr 2019

For his latest Gucci campaign, creative director Alessandro Michele transported his models to the historic ruins of the temples of the Selinunte Archaeological Park in Sicily. Paying homage to the spirit of 7th century BC, what Michele calls a “modern-day version of a symposium” includes a group of friends and lovers who meet to dance, read poems, listen music, play sport, and even to discuss philosophical and political issues.

Photographed by Glen Luchford, the characters in the Ancient Greek site are drawn from the counter-cultural groups seen on California’s Venice Beach. The hard-core punks, rollerbladers, bodybuilders and surfers at the Gucci symposium are seen passionately making out and playing basketball in front of the ruins, all while wearing the brand’s latest collection, bringing contemporary youth culture into the ruins of a classical civilisation.
