Ocean’s 8, the new crime thriller putting women characters in the criminal spotlight, is also putting the art world on the silver screen, as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is center of the film. Who knew a stately museum could be at the core of a Hollywood film?
The new film features actresses Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Rihanna, among others as they steal a $150m Cartier necklace at the Met Gala, while dressed in high fashion, naturally. The film’s costumes were designed by Vogue editor Hamish Bowles. “Rather than getting into the idea of doing period costume, we framed the exhibition around the idea of royal dress, and its enduring influence on fashion designers,” Bowles said in a statement.
