She is known for her bunny ears on the tongues of sneakers. The famed Finnish shoe designer Minna Parikka is known for creating playful designs that are worn by Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga and Cara Delevingne – especially, she is known for her bunny ears, but also her Nordic cool designs, which include Disney-esque curves and a feminine pastel palette.
Parikka recently opened her doors to ELLE Decor, who she told: “I wanted to create a home that looks 100% like me and that does not follow the usual Nordic home design. I wanted it to be fresh, fun, and adventurous, but still comfortable and functional,” says Parikka. “I love creating worlds that are filled with fantasy and escape from the mundane.”
This self-made ladyboss has helped put Finland on the design map (beyond your typical Scandinavian architecture, of course).
In her home, in the heart of Helsinki, she has created all the interior design on her own, but is still functional in this small house. That painting on the wall, you ask?
It’s actually a TV cabinet she designed, which looks like a painting of Ziggy Stardust in cartoon form,” though the illustration is by the illustration team Craig & Carl.
Her home is minimal with its art collection, as its a work of artwork in itself, carefully curated around the house’s retro design.
“I was immediately drawn to the high thatched ceiling of the upstairs open-plan living room and kitchen area and the tranquil downstairs bedroom and workspace,” Parikka told ELLE Decor.
It seems that her second love, after shoe designing, is treating interiors like works of art.
“I love designing interiors,” she said. “I wish to keep the house as it is. It resembles my taste now and everything has its place. I don’t need to buy even one more object for it.”
