How To Cope When Your Professional Self-Confidence Has Taken A Bashing
A lot of careers have turned upside down overnight
Art Girls Jungle 04 Apr 2020

Baron

These past few weeks have been a surreal emotional roller-coaster filled with uncertainty for all.   Seemingly overnight, the entire fabric of daily life, including a lot of people’s careers around the world, has been turned upside down. Thanks (or really no thanks) to COVID-19, the art world has experienced a wobble, with museums, art fairs, galleries, and many other art institutions and industry events making the decision to cancel, postpone, or alter their 2020 editions or planned programming.

People around the art world, mainly the self-employed lost their jobs, causing self-esteem to hit an all-time low.

At a time like this it is important that we keep ourselves optimistic, energized, and entertained (and, perhaps, a little distracted) to keep self-esteem high.

Here are 8 ways to keep your spirits up, rebuild and move forward in these anxious times.

1. Structure your days, work or no work, it is important to keep your days structured to boost morale. Structure is necessary for creating a sense of stability and balance in your life during uncertain times.

2. Recognize your strengths and build on them

3. Chart your successes and reward yourself for them

4. Seek support and encouragement from others

5. Know that confidence is fragile and protect yourself

6. Stop reacting and start responding intentionally

7. Set yourself weekly achievable goals

And most importantly…….

8. Believe in yourself again!

Take baby steps to get yourself back on track. If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for those who depend on you. And remember if you did loose your job : One employer’s loss is another employer’s gain….. And that gain will be YOU!
