Jeff Koons Throwback to the Early 2000s
From balloon dog sculptor to a bouquet of tulips that brought him under fire.
Entertainment 04 Mar 2018
Some might know Jeff Koons as the dog balloon sculptor, others know him for coming under fire for proposing a bouquet of tulips monument to honor the terror attacks in Paris. However you feel about him, he is at it again with a new show at Gagosian in New York opening March 10. He’ll be showing his Easyfun-Ethereal paintings from the early 2000s, pop art oil paintings with menu-like names: “Hot Dog,” “Desert” and “Pancakes.” It might not make complete sense, but it does to the artist. “My interest has always been to create art that can change with any culture or society viewing it,” says Koons. “When I look at the paintings and realize all the historical references, it’s as if, for a moment, all ego is lost to meaning.”
