Art Bridges Fellow (Regular Full-Time)

The Art Bridges Fellow at LACMA will hold a three-year fellowship position focused in Exhibition Design and Production. In supporting programs co-organized by LACMA and the Art Bridges AB Fellow will gain considerable experience in all aspects of exhibition design, including scaling works of art for inclusion in designs, understanding display requirements, developing exhibition floor plans and elevations, and participating in planning meetings.  The AB Fellow will report directly to the Manager of Exhibition Design within Exhibition Design & Production at LACMA.  The AB Fellow will work closely with exhibitions, curatorial, graphic design, education staff, in planning for exhibition spaces in connection with Art Bridges partnerships–the Local Access and Collection Programs. 

The AB Fellow at LACMA will be part of the second cohort of The Art Bridges Fellows Program. This program supports the foundation’s mission to expand access to American art in all regions across the United States.  The Art Bridges Fellows Program is dedicated to creating diverse museum leadership with a national cohort of emerging professionals and mentors. With its partner museums, the foundation will establish deep career pathways for historically underrepresented groups in the arts. The Art Bridges Fellow at LACMA will attend two convenings in Bentonville, Arkansas each year, including a month-long residency and orientation from July 10 to August 4, 2023. 


  •  In collaboration with colleagues at LACMA and at Local Access venues, lead exhibition design for presentations of exhibitions drawn from LACMA’s collections at Local Access venues.
  • Develop design criteria with curatorial and exhibition staff. 
  • Collaborate with audio/visual consultants. 
  • Work with lighting designers.
  • Review construction feasibility with construction staff. 
  • Consult with various Museum departments outside of Exhibition Design & Production, contractors, and venues, including Graphic Design, Facilities, Conservation, Art Preparation & Installation, and many others.
  • Participate in regular meetings with LACMA’s Exhibition Design & Production team (Exhibition Design, Gallery Construction, Gallery Media), supporting the museum’s extensive visitor  programming goals. 
  • Participate in larger planning meetings for all Exhibition Design & Production projects. 
  • Participate in the planning meetings to organize the travel of LACMA’s collections locally through the Local Access program, and nationally through the Collection Loan Program.
  • Attend two annual Art Bridges convenings in Bentonville, Arkansas, including a month-long residency and orientation. 


  • A professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • Interest in and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) in the field.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer experience in professional architectural software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Rhino is essential.
  • Discretion in the handling of confidential materials.
