The Role

The Art Technician role provides technical art handling expertise and operational support across the following King Street areas; Incoming/Outgoing Goods, Collections and Property Warehouse Zones.

The role must maintain and champion Christie’s Art Handling guidelines and ensure all staff operating within the warehouses adhere to these standards.  Art Technicians are responsible for managing the flow of inventory through Christie’s and supporting key business activities such as photography on arrival through to preparing a item for private client view.  Art Technicians are responsible for maintaining accurate inventory, preparing reports and proactively managing the volume and type of property at King Street. The role of Art Technician is both varied and challenging and requires a high degree of enthusiasm and energy.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

·       Manage and control the flow of client property, ensuring all items are tagged and condition checked with all product movement recorded accurately in Christie’s inventory management system

·       Report immediately to line manager any damages, losses or inventory discrepancies

·       Work across warehouse functions as instructed by manager

·       Facilitate business requirement to photograph property on arrival, including staging works and moving to/from photography studios

·       Provide logistical support for specialists during cataloguing and hilling sessions

·       Facilitate pre-sale lotting up and re-framing (in accordance with sale type) 

·       Liaise with key stakeholders (photographers, specialist departments, third party suppliers and restorers) to ensure all artworks are shot for the catalogue and are ready for client viewing

·       Liaise with saleroom operations to ensure the sale is ready to transfer at the agreed date

·       Support saleroom art handlers with preparing pre-sale views including providing advise on specific handling and installation requirements

·       Manage property and warehouse zones in  accordance to the principals of 5S: Sort, Set In order, Shine, Standardise and Sustain.

Ensure all warehouse zones have the highest standards of cleanliness and organisation

·       Perform physical bi-annual stock checks

·       Collaborate with Inventory Management and Specialist Departments to ensure all warehouses have 100% item location accuracy and all unsuitable products are processed according to inventory management guidelines

·       Align with Christie’s Core Values

·       Own and undertake regular training and personal development plans

·       Support Line Manager and Warehouse Manager to provide cross departmental support and technical expertise at all times

The Candidate 

•          Must be willing to support colleagues across department functions and specialist areas

•          Must have technical expertise and experience in handling works of art, including installation and packing standards

•          High attention to detail, hardworking, self-motivated, and an excellent teamworker

•          Excellent communication and presentation skills

•          Ability to work professionally and responsibly with all internal and external stakeholders

•          High degree of organisation with ability to multi-task and prioritise workflow

•          Positive and proactive attitude with a willingness to accept assignments as and when required

•          Awareness of Health & Safety issues, specifically Covid-19 controls

•          Competent with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

•          Desire to learn, impart knowledge to team and take on new challenges

•          Willingness to work a flexible schedule, with some weekend work required to meet the needs of the business
