JOB OVERVIEW

British-Nigerian Artist Karimah Ashadu is seeking an experienced, organised and reliable Manager to handle her award-winning practice.

The key role of this position is to negotiate sales, manage the production of artwork and installations and seek project funding. You would have experience with sales, archive management, and possess the ability to operate under pressure from ongoing deadlines. You also have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prioritize, solve problems and be resourceful.

Though the Artist is based between Germany and Nigeria, this role is remote and the applicant can be based anywhere. You would be supported by the Artists’ Assistant when required.

The ideal candidate is composed and personable. You understand the inner workings of the art world and have at least 5 years proven managerial experience in the arts.

References required.

Responsibilities

· First point of contact for the artist and her studio, liaising with enquires from institutions

Curators, collectors and press

· Coordinating contracts and NDAs

· Negotiating sales and seeking commercial opportunities

· Cataloguing the artists’ work

· Coordinating all administrative aspects of upcoming shows with galleries and museums

· Negotiating fees and contractual arrangements for all engagements

· Contribute and edit texts; publications, artist statements. Conduct research as needed

· Support the artist with writing and applying for grants

· Develop and maintain systems for tracking project production and costs

· Coordinate the handling, storing, shipping, and installation of artwork

Skills and Experience

· The ideal candidate has several years experience working in a contemporary art gallery, established artist’s studio or museum, and or management experience within the arts

· Experience developing and maintaining detailed databases, artwork archives or inventory systems

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and basic creative software such as Photoshop – knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

· Strong communication abilities; able to edit and or write artist statements and handle media communications with galleries, institutions, and contribute to publications

· Ability to speak and write in German as well as English, is a bonus

Qualifications

· 5 or more years’ experience in the art world

· Managerial and art sales experience

· Project management

· Higher education or related degree

· Some legal experience or knowledge is desirable

Hours are flexible and negotiable.
