Blikopeners Coordinator
Stedelijk Museum
Post Date: 20 May 2024

JOB OVERVIEW

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is the largest museum for modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands, with well-known names in the collection and a lively and controversial exhibition program, ranging from major crowd pullers to signature exhibitions by young artists and designers. 125 years young, the Stedelijk Museum has built a great reputation as a platform for world-class artists, often shown at an early stage of their careers. The Stedelijk Museum has Amsterdam roots, focuses on an (inter)national audience and is one of the most visited museums in the Netherlands.

The Education & Inclusion team offers programming that focuses on polyphony, curiosity and personal interpretation. The Can Openers Program has been a successful example of this vision for 16 years. The program offers Amsterdam young people (15-19) a part-time job in the museum, with which they develop themselves and open the eyes of the public and staff.

THE FUNCTION

As Blikopeners Coordinator, you are responsible for the ins and outs of the Stedelijk’s youth program, the growth and prosperity of the participants, and the collaboration with the various departments of the museum and external partners.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH US?

As a Can Openers Coordinator, you will perform the following tasks, among others:

  • Managing and supervising the Blikopeners, designing, organizing and supervising the weekly meetings of the Blikopeners;

  • Provide substantive and procedural guidance to the Blikopeners in creating programming and (online) content;
  • Taking care of the (personnel) administrative side of the project;
  • Managing project budgets, contributing to fundraising and responsible for reporting to the subsidy provider;
  • Managing an intern.

WHO ARE YOU

  • You are someone who can easily have a chat with the security guard at the entrance, but also with the director. You can empathize with the needs of young people and know how to translate them to the rest of the museum;
  • You communicate pleasantly and clearly, taking into account the different needs, characters and ages in the group;
  • You are demonstrably committed to ensuring that young people have equal opportunities;
  • You come up with creative new concepts and enjoy working with partners and young people from all over the city.
  • You have good organizational skills. This is evident, for example, from events that you have produced yourself;
  • You know how to draw up and maintain a budget and you have some experience with administration;
  • You have at least 3 years of experience working with young people.

WE OFFER

We initially offer an employment contract for one year for 32-36 hours per week, with the intention to extend;
Depending on education and work experience, the position is classified in scale 8 or 9 (max. € 4,141) for a full, 36-hour working week, excluding holiday and end-of-year bonus, in accordance with the Museum Collective Labor Agreement.
