Job Details


The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Cataloguer in the Department of Drawings and Prints.  Reporting to senior Curatorial staff, the Cataloguer works with curatorial staff in examining, researching, and cataloguing the Museum’s collection of drawings and prints, including ephemera, as well as major archives of Fluxus and Conceptual art. Assists with processing new acquisitions and readying information on collection works for internal and external loans. Enters information into TMS for Museum archival records, updating when changes occur.  Assists with storage solutions for new acquisitions and other collection works.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Prepares collection-related documents: catalogue sheets, artist questionnaires, NELs, Artist Lifetime memberships, framing orders, etc.
  • Maintains routine collection data, records and files, including artist questionnaires, non-exclusive licenses, caption approvals, conservation records, correspondence, and other Museum-wide collection initiatives.
  • Responds to inquiries about collection works from both internal colleagues (other curatorial departments, Publications, Education, Marketing, Retail) and external parties (catalogues raisonnés; artist studios, foundations, estates, peer institutions).
  • Researches artists and collection objects.
  • Assists Collection Specialist in the coordination of collection photography and imaging requests, as needed.
  • Assists Collection Specialist with visitors to Study Center, including vetting files for outside researchers, as needed.
  • Helps to maintain departmental reference library.
  • Performs routine administrative duties in support of Department’s initiatives.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in art history. General knowledge of modern and contemporary art and works on paper, and familiarity with drawings and prints techniques. 
  • Prior cataloguing of prints, multiples, illustrated books and drawings required.
  • Prior experience with works of art and collections organization preferred.
  • General office experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized.
  • Knowledge of TMS.
  • Strong research and communication skills (written and oral) preferred.
  • Accurate data entry.
  • Ability to collaborate, work as a team, and balance concurrent short- and long-term projects.
  • Fully vaccinated with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and/or the World Health Organization authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis).
