About the job

  • Full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract position
  • Audience Engagement Division
  • Reports to the Head of Communications, Marketing and Visitor Experience

Overview of the position

You will work in a varied role on campaigns for exhibitions, public and access programs, and other major projects as part of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia’s high-performing Communications and Marketing team.

This role will suit a marketing professional and copywriter, with a minimum of four-years’ work experience, who is looking for experience working for an iconic arts and culture brand. We are looking for someone who is an excellent writer, with a strong attention to detail, who enjoys working in a busy environment and has a passion for the arts for as well as growing the MCA brand.

This role is vital to the MCA’s Communications and Marketing team and works collaboratively with many different parts of the Museum. This role reports directly to the Head of Communications, Marketing and Visitor Experience, supporting the Marketing manager, PR manager and wider team by ensuring quality control as well as consistent MCA voice and tone across all internal and external communications.

Tasks and responsibilities of the position

External Communications – Exhibitions & Programs

Editing

  • Editing all MCA external communications for quality, consistent tone and brand alignment working to the Marketing Manager and PR Manager. These include:
  • eDMs
  • invitations
  • social media posts
  • media releases
  • speech notes for MCA Director and Chair
  • marketing-led website pages
  • Update copy on marketing and public relations sections of the website as required
  • Updating the Editorial Style Guide working with Design Studio Manager.

Writing/Digital Media Brand

  • Writing and building monthly eDMs
  • Writing and building website pages for public program and access events
  • Writing and building eDM communications as required in high pressure periods, to support the Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinators
  • Writing social media posts for MCA main channels and Store to assist the Marketing Coordinators.

Internal Communications

  • Developing an internal communications plan, including weekly ‘What’s on’ staff email and staff meeting agendas
  • Coordinating, writing, and delivering all internal communications as directed by the Head of Communications, Marketing and Visitor Experience.

Crisis Communications: Internal and External

  • Updating the Crisis Communications Manual with new staff and scenarios as necessary
  • Drafting all crisis communications copy (emails, eDMs, website, socials) as directed by the Head of Communications, Marketing and Visitor Experience.

Key selection criteria

Essential criteria

Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing and Communications or equivalent degree
  • a minimum of four years’ experience working in house for a communications and marketing team or for a marketing/PR agency
  • strong writing skills across digital and print and a passion for digital communications
  • experience of writing, developing, and disseminating e-Newsletters, writing for websites and social media
  • an excellent eye for detail when proofing written materials
  • a passion for and understanding of contemporary art and/or the broader arts sector
  • resilience to work in a fast-paced environment, problem solve and manage multiple (and often conflicting) deadlines
  • good communication skills to work with colleagues across the organisation
  • intermediate computer literacy skills with Microsoft Office including Excel
  • a commitment to the Museum’s objective of promoting the work of living artists and making contemporary art accessible to broad audiences through the imaginative and creative presentation of exhibitions.

Desirable criteria

It would be good if applicants have:

  • experience of providing guidance to graphic designers
  • experience of developing crisis communications plans and writing crisis communications
  • experience of developing and writing internal communications.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

Please note that it is currently a requirement as per the MCA’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, that all employees, volunteers, and visitors are fully vaccinated. You will need to provide evidence of your COVID-19 vaccination if you are successful. Please note that full vaccination as per the current NSW Government guidelines means two doses of COVID-19 vaccine for adults, and any future approved vaccination boosters. The MCA continues to review this Policy on a regular basis and may change the vaccination mandate requirements in the future.
