JOB OVERVIEW

Salary: £ 23,000/ year, negotiable based on experience. Salary subject to a yearly increase based on performance
Start date: as soon as available
Contract: permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, with 2 Saturday per month (following Monday off in lieu)

About the Employer
Founded in 2009, Tristan Hoare is a multi-layered gallery focusing on young and established artists working in a variety of mediums. African photography, glass, textile art, painting and drawing are all areas of interest, as well as a developing passion for ceramics.
Each year we curate an ambitious exhibition with an overarching theme. Geometrica (2018), Botanica (2019), Folds (2021) and The Conference of the Birds (2022) enabled us to collaborate with multiple artists and galleries, combining work from BC to the present day. Exhibitions are executed with the intention of telling a story and connecting with both seasoned collectors and people less familiar with the art world.
The gallery is located in a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse in Fitzroy Square.

Summary
The candidate will join a dynamic and tight team and will be involved in every aspect of gallery activities, including coordination of exhibitions, events, shipping and logistics, office administration, as well as day to day running of the gallery. The gallery assistant will undertake a multifaceted role and will gain a valuable insight into the arts and the experience of working in a commercial contemporary art gallery.

Job Description
The candidate’s day-to-day responsibilities may include:
– Assisting with installations and de-installations
– Preparing and maintaining the gallery space for and during exhibitions
– Maintaining the gallery’s internal database (Artlogic)
– Record and stock keeping, data-input, copying, filing, and mailing
– Creating resources for exhibitions and art fairs
– Organising and coordinating shipping of artworks both internationally and domestically
– Assistance with management of digital content
– Answering phones and sending emails
– PA duties for the Director, including travel and diary arrangements
– Assisting the Gallery Manager on a variety ad-hoc tasks, as and when required

Candidate Requirements
Essential:
– A relevant undergraduate degree (Art History, Fine Art or Design, or equivalent)
– Experience in an art business
– A fluency in both verbal and written English
– Working knowledge of French or Italian
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
– Ability to work in a small and compact team
– Day-to-day flexibility and versatility in terms of work requirements – from office administration, research and
record keeping to exhibition set up, artwork delivery and material sourcing
– Excellent organisational skills and ability to multitask and prioritise
– An ability to perform well under pressure
– Proactive attitude and ability to self-motivate
– Ability to meet numerous deadlines for a variety of projects
– IT literacy – experience using Microsoft Office or iWork productivity systems and databases

Desirable:
– Prior experience in shipping and logistics
– Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
– Fluency in a third language
– Prior experience of working in an administrative role
– Prior experience of working in an art gallery
