JOB OVERVIEW

The C. Stuart and Jane H. Hunt Art Gallery was established in April 2022 with the intent to support and grow representation for the artists of Western New York. Located in downtown Buffalo, Hunt Art Gallery is bringing bi-monthly exhibitions and events to the historic Brisbane Building for the surrounding community.

Since our opening nearly two years ago, we have expanded into an Artist in Residence program “Hunt Residencies” 501c3. Our mission is to support the career development and representation for emerging artists in Buffalo by providing a full mentorship program, exhibition opportunity and free studio space for 5-6 months.

In November 2023, Beebe’s at the Gallery opened. An extension of Hunt Art Gallery to allow the public to rent space and hold parties and special occasions at the Brisbane Building with access to the art gallery and studios. Beebe’s is an arts-forward and intimate event space which has a full bar and kitchen, gallery/dining room.

C. Stuart and Jane H. Hunt Art Gallery was established in April 2022 with a clear mission: to support and enhance the representation of artists in Western New York. Located in downtown Buffalo, the Hunt Art Gallery has become a vibrant cultural hub, offering exhibitions and events to the local community.

In addition to showcasing established and emerging artists, the gallery has taken significant strides in supporting the development of local talent. Since its inception, the Hunt Gallery has expanded its offerings to include the Hunt Residencies program. This initiative is designed to provide emerging artists with valuable mentorship, exhibition opportunities, and studio space for a period of 6 months.

By providing a nurturing environment and valuable resources, the gallery is committed to fostering the career development and representation of emerging artists in Buffalo. Through its innovative programs and engaging exhibitions, the gallery continues to play a vital role in enriching the cultural landscape of Western New York.

 

Internship Overview:

The Art Gallery Intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of gallery operations, including exhibition coordination, artist relations, marketing, and event planning. This internship provides valuable insight into the art world and offers practical skills for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the arts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibition Support:
  • Assist with the installation and deinstallation of art exhibitions, including handling and hanging artworks.
  • Collaborate with the gallery team to prepare exhibition spaces, including lighting, signage, and labeling.
  • Conduct research on artists and artworks featured in upcoming exhibitions.
  • Archives and Catalogs
  • Artist Relations:
  • Provide support to artists participating in gallery exhibitions, including communication, coordination of artwork delivery, and artist bios.
  • Assist in maintaining artist files and portfolios, including digital documentation of artworks and artist statements.
  • Facilitate communication between artists, gallery staff, and visitors during exhibition openings and events.
  • Marketing and Promotion:
  • Support the gallery’s marketing efforts through social media management, content creation, and promotion of exhibitions and events.
  • Assist in drafting press releases, artist interviews, and promotional materials.
  • Help maintain the gallery’s website and online presence, including updating exhibition information and artist profiles.
  • Event Planning and Coordination:
  • Assist in planning and executing gallery events, including exhibition openings, artist talks, workshops, and receptions.
  • Coordinate event logistics, such as catering, guest lists, and event set-up.
  • Provide on-site support during gallery events, ensuring a positive experience for visitors and guests.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to art history, visual arts, arts administration, or a related field (or recent graduate).
  • Passion for contemporary art and a desire to learn about gallery operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with artists, colleagues, and gallery visitors.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends during gallery events.
