JOB OVERVIEW

Gagosian seeks a full-time Image Archivist to join its New York City team.

Reporting to the Digital Archive and Program Manager, the Image Archivist will be part of a global team responsible for stewarding digital image files for a wide-range of gallery uses. The ideal candidate will have the ability to multitask, work both independently and collaboratively, with superb communication and organization skills, and an eye for detail. The Image Archivist will contribute to the digital asset management system and maintain the photographic transparency archive.

Duties include but not limited to

– Field requests for images of artworks and exhibition installations associated with Gagosian and gallery-represented artists

– Ingest new assets into the gallery’s digital asset management system; assign known metadata

– Organize exhibition and art fair show images from coordinator checklists, determining which artworks must be photographed or rephotographed

– Create to-scale digital art mock-ups, exhibition model chips, and poster facsimiles in Photoshop

– Assist Photographer/Head Archivist by scheduling on and off-site photography

– Create to-scale digital art mock-ups, exhibition model chips, and posters

– Monitor upcoming exhibition and art fair schedules to determine what works of art need to be photographed or rephotographed

– Manage digital assets for the gallery owner’s private collection working closely with their Collections Manager

– Submit invoices and maintain expense reports

– Assist in ongoing metadata cleanup projects

– Make and monitor Imaging Department supply orders

– Ad hoc projects as assigned.

Requirements

– 1 – 3 years experience of relevant work

– Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge

– Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills

– Background in Art History, preferred

– Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects at once

– Some post-production experience is required. Additional commercial photography and post-production expertise is a plus

– Experience with digital asset management systems is a plus, but not required

–Must be discrete and able to manage confidential material

Position Type

Full-Time/Regular/Salaried position with overtime.

Tuesday to Saturday, onsite, with additional hours working gallery openings and events, as needed.

Compensation

$50,000 to $55,000 annually
