Intern – Los Angeles

The Role

The Los Angeles regional office is responsible for handling transactions and maintaining client relationships in the West coast, a region that encompasses Southern California, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Christie’s does not operate a saleroom in Los Angeles; instead, specialists and administrators based in Los Angeles work towards supporting sales that take place in New York and other salerooms around the world.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Interns are expected to perform a wide range of day-to-day tasks, including answering phones, sending and receiving mail, running errands, processing invoices, and maintaining client files
  • Acting as the first point of contact, greeting visitors and delivering exceptional customer service assistance
  • Answering calls and fielding them to colleagues
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of visitor requests and of calls received
  • Maintaining the reception area, office and gallery space and all common areas in a clean and tidy manner at all times
  • Receiving deliveries; sorting and distributing incoming mail and parcels
  • Operating standard office equipment on a regular basis, including a printer, a copy machine, and various conference call equipment (training will be provided)
  • Typing dictated notes and memos into our internal system 
  • Assisting in updating/maintaining the Managing Director’s diary/outlook calendar as directed by the CMC
  • Managing sensitive information with a high level of discretion and good judgment 
  • Collaborating with other members of the Chairman’s Office to support common goals, tasks, and support a proactive work environment 
  • Researching clients, artwork, auctions, boards of various institutions and foundations
  • Interns will help respond to inquiries from individuals hoping to consign works of art with Christie’s, and when appropriate, interns will also accompany specialists on visits to clients’ homes to assist with the appraisal and pick up of art objects
  • There are ample opportunities to interact with objects brought in to the office by clients, ranging from jewelry to old master paintings, and in some cases, interns will also have the opportunity to help out at special events held in Los Angeles

The Candidate

We are looking for hard-working, energetic, and intellectually curious self-starters who can thrive in a high-pressure environment. Our most successful interns are those who truly embrace the experience and are not afraid to take every opportunity that is presented to them. They ask questions and are keen to learn about the entire auction process.

  • Passion for the Arts
  • Strategic and commercially minded
  • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in Excel, with familiarity with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, match formulas, and macros are a plus
  • Additional language skills are desirable, however not mandatory
  • Superior client service skills
  • Strong follow-up and attention to detail

International Candidates:

International individuals may apply for a U.S. internship as long as they have the necessary visa status.  Christie’s does not sponsor visas for any candidate for our internship program. 


All candidates must have appropriate work authorization (OPT complete), as Christie’s does not sponsor visas for entry level positions. Selected international students must be in possession of the following documents prior to their start date. Kindly note that your visa must cover the entire length of the internship, an offer may not go out if it only covers a portion of the program.
