Christie’s, the world’s leading international auction house, is recruiting a Junior Proposals Writer to work in the Proposals Department in Paris.

To fully support the team that writes, designs and produces persuasive, high-quality proposal documents/presentations – to tight deadlines – in order to win top business for Christie’s.

The candidate will work closely with all members of the Proposals Team in Paris. The candidate will be trained as a Junior Writer.

The candidate will undergo basic training on using a Mac, Christie’s Systems, Filemaker, and Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop and Indesign (a desktop publishing package).

Key responsibilities/tasks of the Junior Writer portion of the job:

The incumbent of this position will be expected to project manage and write shorter proposals, market reports and business getting documents.

  • Providing creative, analytical and operational contributions to high-value business pitches.
  • Participating in the creation of small proposals, business getting documents or market reports, from brief to final delivery. The candidate will act as the project manager for this jobs and coordinate correspondence with the specialists and executives involved.
  • Gathering and analysing information to construct persuasive sale arguments and writing clear, effective and tailored documents in French.
  • Updating market reports on specific artists or artistic specialty throughout the year.
  • Working with the graphic designer on the production process or being able to handle publishing, printing and binding of a document alone if necessary.
  • Communicating progress to the lead specialist at all times.
  • Bring the project to completion within tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities/tasks of the Administrator portion of the job:

  • Taking full personal responsibility for delivery of key areas of the Proposals function; the candidate will not be junior in terms of accountability. All tasks must be completed to deadline.
  • Sourcing images in the in-house database, in older catalogues and academic books.
  • Tracking Paris sales results to update the department’s records of top lots and sales.
  • Handling quotes, invoices, follow-up with accounting department, reporting of balance.
  • Being the point of contact for the printing and binding of small documents from Christie’s departments.
  • Assisting the team in all aspects of print production: printing, cutting, binding documents.
  • Monitoring stock materials (paper, printer, binding supplies, etc) and production machines, ordering replenishment.

Skills/Competencies required:

  • Business school, commerce or office administration degree
  • Exhibit strong writing skills and excellent grammar
  • A strong interest in the visual and literary arts
  • Experience in office administration and working on creative projects
  • Very good level of English, spoken and written
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Mac environment, Indesign and Photoshop would be a plus
  • Have a strong sense of personal accountability and initiative
  • Be practical, demonstrate ability for manual tasks
  • Be able to work under pressure and have proven time-management skills
  • Be highly organised (demonstrate ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively)
  • Have exceptional attention to details
  • Demonstrate a clear can-do attitude and commitment to excellent client service
