JOB OVERVIEW

London

Phillips is currently seeking an organised and motivated individual to fill a fixed-term Library Internship in the 20th Century & Contemporary Art department, starting in June 2022.

Based in our London Headquarters at Berkeley Square, the primary focus of the internship will be to catalogue a new library of books for the 20th Century & Contemporary Art department in advance of their inclusion into the London library and deaccession or distribution to different Phillips’ office locations as needed. The internship would be suitable for applicants with an interest specifically in history of art and library systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will be involved with a variety of different tasks including:

•       Survey uncatalogued monographs, publications, magazines, and other materials

•       Create accurate catalogue records in the library database

•       Identify rare books and publications

•       Complete the integration of the books into Phillips’ London library

•       Manage the reallocation and shipment of selected publications to Phillips’ European offices

•       Manage the deaccession of publications where appropriate

•       Coordinate with the Associate Specialist to meet project goals

•       Other duties as assigned

Professional Skills and Experience

•       Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•       The ability to deal effectively and efficiently with multiple tasks while working to meet strict deadlines.  

•       Experience using and/or creating databases for collections, particularly libraries.

Education and Training

The ideal candidate will have a passion for art or the art world and be a history of art, museum studies or library science graduate or other relevant major. 

•       Training and experience in the use of digital database systems.

•       Highly organised and self-motivated with strong attention to details.

•       Ability to work independently.

Working Conditions

Salary is £9.50 per hour for a 40 hour working week.  Interns are required to be able to work daily Monday to Friday

Must be available to take up the position in June 2022

Manual lifting of boxes will be required.  Full training on manual handling will be provided.

Additional Info

This is a three-month internship placement and at present, there is no scope for this to develop into a permanent position.
