Design Museum Everywhere is a new kind of museum: online, nomadic, and accessible to all. Instead of a single museum location, we pop-up in places where people already go, and produce high-quality media experiences to support our mission to bring the transformative power of design everywhere. We believe design can change the world; done well, it can elevate our quality of life, make businesses more competitive, and protect our environment. We inspire people by showing what’s possible through public exhibitions and events, as well as our magazine, podcast, and online content. We educate people — from kids to CEOs — to become creative problem solvers using the design process. And we transform, using design to take action and make change, demonstrating its impact.

Position Overview 

Design Museum Everywhere is seeking a Marketing Contractor (contracted to 35 hours per week) for a 3-6 month contract starting ASAP. 

We seek an extremely organized person with digital marketing experience who is comfortable working with a remote-first team. This position reports to the Deputy Director, Maria Villafranca. 

The Marketing Contractor will work on the marketing and communications of several museum initiatives, including Design Museum Week, our We Design book and Kickstarter campaign, our annual Design Night LIVE celebration, and our virtual education programs, in addition to other museum campaigns.

Successful candidates will have at least 3 years experience, along with strong writing skills and a demonstrated ability to adapt writing styles to fit different audiences and platforms. Graphic design experience is a plus, but not required.

Position Functions 

  • Monitor, engage, and post on the museum’s social media channels. (Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn/Instagram).
  • Research and draft stories for our weekly newsletter using Mailchimp. 
  • Research promotional opportunities and community partnerships.
  • Write and post blog posts, event listings, and program announcements on the museum’s website.
  • Coordinate marketing related correspondence at various levels (Staff, Board, event personnel, etc) and co-marketing with partner companies. 


  • Has their own computer and comfortable working in a fast-paced setting with a remote-first team
  • Knowledgeable about social media best practices, particularly in the arts and/or nonprofit sectors
  • Passion for nonprofit digital marketing, communications, and design
  • Extremely organized and able to jump in on preexisting and new projects
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with the following tools/processes: Google Docs, Social Media channels (Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter), Notion.
  • A creative problem solver and self-starter who can receive collaborative direction but also work independently
  • Observant, curious, considerate, kind, respectful, supportive of others
  • Goal-oriented, but not afraid to admit when they need help
  • Is a self-starter, able to pick up parts of a project and contribute
  • Is a collaborator, able to work with a team and boost its effectiveness
  • Is adaptable, able to pivot and move forward with new constraints
  • Is a planner, able to anticipate needs and put detailed plans in place for the future


Begin ASAP for a 3-6 month contract. The contract is for 35 hours per week. 

This position will be fully remote and can be located anywhere in the U.S.; meetings will be during M-F 9-5pm ET. 

Compensation: $22.00/hour
