Job Title: Membership & Development Executive

Scope and Purpose

The Membership & Development Executive supports the Head of Programming to establish and nurture relationships with key UK and international collectors, as well as establishing relations with institutions, in particular Patrons, Trustees and the relevant staff. The purpose of the Membership & Development Executive is to manage and monitor all VIP outreach in order to secure their attendance and involvement at Cromwell Place. This includes working closely with the Head of Programming, Club Room & Events to organise high-level tailored events programmes for VIPs and Patron groups that compliments and responds to Member’s exhibitions and activities.

The post holder will also be responsible for supporting the Head of Programming with all Honorary Member conversations and projects, including acting as a main point of contact throughout their Membership, taking site visits and ensuring a smooth flow of events. Working with the Head of Programming on special projects and partnerships will also be a large part of the individuals’ daily tasks and responsibilities, including generating reports and proposals, managing relationships with external partners.

Tasks and Responsibilities


• Supports the Head of Programming on special projects, programming and partnerships.
• Is responsible for calculating costs, generating reports and creating proposals to be shared externally.
• Is available to take site visits, discuss potential collaborations and clearly explain how Cromwell Place operates relating to the project in mind.
• Acts as main point of contact when necessary to answer any questions and nurture the relationship from start to end.
• Works closely with Membership & Marketing teams to ensure Membership Managers are equipped with all information pertaining to programming and special projects.

Honorary Membership

• Supports with Honorary Member research and outreach (ie. Institutions, Not-for-profits, Foundations).
• Manages onboarded Honorary Members and seeing through their exhibitions or use of Cromwell Place such as events, booking of meeting rooms, viewing rooms and/or art storage.
• Responsible for updating all databases with accurate Honorary Member information.
• Activates Honorary Members for their Patrons and Friends events.
• Draws up contracts and official letters for new Honorary Members.

Conditions of Work

• Permanent contract
• Full time, 9:30am-6pm, with one hour for lunch. Some evening and weekend work will be required, compensated by time off in lieu.
• Salary: commensurate to role
• Probation period: 3 months.
• Notice period: 1 month in writing on either side.

Person Specification

• A highly motivated, detail-orientated and organised team player.
• Previous experience in a high-demanding client-facing role, ideally in an art fair or museum environment.
• Outstanding social skills and people management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with an impeccable eye for detail.
• A proactive, self-motivated & organised approach to working, with experience in effectively multi-tasking. An ability to prioritise and plan.
• Adaptable and flexible approach to work to achieve agreed deadlines within tight schedules and under pressure.
• Demonstrable and active interest in art, design and visual culture, with an understanding of Cromwell Place’s particular role within it.
• Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft, (including Excel).
• Experience of working with databases (Cromwell Place uses Salesforce).
• An energetic, highly motivated and enthusiastic team player with a desire to further their career in the art world by contributing to Cromwell Place’s success.
• Experience of liaising with VIPs and Patrons Groups.
• Experience with events, including management and acting as point of contact internally and externally.
• Knowledge of public and private art sector in the UK and an understanding of the global art industry’s schedule, including art fairs & biennales.
• Degree in Art History, Fine Art or Curatorial Studies.
