Pace Gallery is a leading international art gallery representing some of the most influential contemporary artists and estates from the past century. Since its founding by Arne Glimcher in 1960, Pace has developed a distinguished legacy as an artist-first gallery that mounts seminal historical and contemporary exhibitions. Under the current leadership of President and CEO Marc Glimcher, Pace continues to support its artists and share their visionary work with audiences worldwide by remaining at the forefront of innovation. Today, Pace has ten locations worldwide including London, Geneva, a strong foothold in Palo Alto, two galleries in New York and our newest location in Los Angeles. Pace was one of the first international galleries to establish outposts in Asia where it operates permanent spaces in Hong Kong and Seoul.

As a key senior member of the global communications team of Pace Gallery, the postholder will oversee PR for Pace Gallery in the Americas, including management of the US-based PR team to execute exhibition campaigns for the gallery’s US locations, art fairs, and special projects. The PR Director, Americas also works directly with artists, studios, estates, and museum PR offices in support of major external projects. The PR Director, Americas contributes towards global PR strategy and corporate messaging, and collaborates closely with Pace’s dealers and with the Directors across Communications & Public Engagement, including Marketing, Content, Events & Public Programming, and Publications.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Act as thought partner to the CMO in developing the public profile of Pace Gallery and affiliated companies
  • Collaborate closely with Pace’s dealers to determine exhibition goals and messaging, and to support artists, studios, and estates on special projects
  • Foster relationships with key media in the US
  • Identify PR opportunities for the CEO and senior leadership to help grow their profile in key US markets to position them as thought leaders in the field
  • Devise campaign plans for artist projects, US art fairs, and exhibitions across Pace’s locations in New York, Los Angeles, and seasonal projects in Palm Beach and other US seasonal locations
  • Execute PR campaigns for priority exhibition projects including high profile media relations
  • Mounting press events, including exhibition press previews and press trips
  • Draft briefings and quotes for artists, Pace leadership and other spokespersons ahead of press opportunities
  • Work in collaboration with the Communications Director, Europe on corporate initiatives including Pace Live programming, Pace Publishing, and special projects
  • Support the Pace Verso Communications Manager with campaign strategy for web3 projects with a focus on arts-specific media
  • Manage the LA-based Communications Manager with respect to PR activity
  • Oversee NY-based PR team in the execution of exhibition and art fair campaigns
  • Line manage NY-based PR team including identifying professional development opportunities, training and mentorship, and pastoral care
  • Oversee the Writer / Editor in material development including press releases for US projects
  • Represent the gallery at art fairs, events, and external opportunities where relevant
  • Manage workflow of the PR department, maintaining and building upon existing departmental processes and systems, including project management and international communications tools

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7 years+ experience in PR at a gallery, museum press office, or arts and culture PR agency
  • Experience in commercial environment and working directly with artists is preferred
  • Proven track record of placing coverage in leading media outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and leading arts media outlets
  • Solid working relationships with US media and good understanding of the arts media landscape
  • Strong sense of messaging
  • Excellent written communications skills and editing ability
  • Experience managing a team

Estimated compensation for this role is $125,000-$150,000.
