Position: Social Media Manager/Deputy Director

Location: Shanghai, CN

THE ROLE

The Social Media role will provide expertise and leadership in the social media landscape while delivering on our global social strategy in China by creating engaging social media campaigns for local audiences on regional and global channels that ultimately contribute to our overall audience growth and brand awareness.

The ideal candidate is someone who is always looking for what’s next in social media, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, who is a natural storyteller and is always looking for the best way to tell it—whether that’s WeChat, a Twitter thread, or a TikTok series. This role will work closely with the local Press, Marketing, Client Development and Specialist departments and act as a social media evangelist within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on delivering creative social-first content to increase followers, reach and engagement across our core social channels for regional auctions, events and Marketplace.
  • Identify efficient ways to build and/or curate still and video content for new regional channels like TikTok, Little Red Book and Bilibili and exercise an understanding of global accounts like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Mentor, encourage and guide the wider Sotheby’s team to build new concepts that elevate the brand, are culturally relevant and deliver results.
  • Establish and develop a narrative around the business impact of critical metrics for social media and communicate back monthly to the business.
  • Identify cultural connections with the brand and outline ways of engaging in the social conversations.
  • Maintain cross-functional alignment, clear communication, flawless integration and timely execution of programs with internal leadership.
  • Amplify Sotheby’s influencer programs and press opportunities in an effort to engage new and existing audiences.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to bring company-wide marketing campaigns to life.
  • Continually explore new channels for Sotheby’s to use to grow our social media reach.

Measuring success

  • Create and present regular reports measuring progress against goals

Ideal Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience managing social media, ideally in-house on the brand side.
  • Experience working in all major social platforms, particularly regional channels including but not limited to: WeChat, Weibo, TikTok, Little Red Book, Bilibili, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Discord and Twitch, a plus.
  • Proven track record of engaging, efficient and newsworthy social media campaigns.
  • Competent in using social media tools and DAMs (E.g. Curalate, Sprinklr, Sprout, Dash Hudson, etc).
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools including Adobe Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook Ads & Business Manager is a plus.
  • Is analytical and highly curious and creative, continually striving to improve his/her skills in the constantly evolving digital and media space; understands how to capture social media insights and apply that to the needs of the business.
  • Possesses strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple, simultaneous priorities
  • Outstanding attention to detail, with a commitment to operational excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator who can plainly tell stories based on data insights to various levels of colleagues (from junior to executive leadership)
  • Collaborative and able to work cross-functionally across various levels of colleagues at the firm, building appropriate rapport, using diplomacy and tact
  • Has a positive, can-do attitude and wants to be part of a critical growth team for the company
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset, and is at ease with change and ambiguity
  • Self-starter who takes responsibility and knows how to problem solve
  • Experience in luxury, fashion or art industries is a plus
