The Role

Work closely with the Business Group specialists and coordination team, co-coordinating all sale activity including responsibility for cataloguing property and organisation for all sales. Develop and maintain client relationships which will be key to the on-going success of the Business Group.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Researches property including authenticity, bibliography, and where appropriate provenance and exhibition history
  • Prepares catalogue notes and condition reports and assists with catalogue production
  • Catalogues property including photography, research, footnotes etc
  • Participates in activities that support the smooth running of the sale, including other channels (e-commerce, auction, private sales)
  • Provides support and research on pricing and valuations etc
  • Works directly with clients under supervision of more experienced colleagues
  • Develops own specialist knowledge in order to build credibility in a specialist area
  • Builds an understanding of the current market and the key players
  • Prepares property for hilling sessions and actively participates
  • Works with more senior colleagues to support business getting activities
  • Develops a network of clients and contacts
  • Ensures client information databases are up to date

The Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History or Decorative Arts or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in auction or related field
  • Demonstrated ability in appraising property for sale
  • Excellent communication (both verbal & written) and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional client service skills
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to work to tight deadlines & prioritise
  • Proficiency in Word, Outlook and Excel preferred
  • Demonstrable knowledge and interest in specialism relating to experience
  • Demonstrable interest in and potential to become a Specialist, developing and managing important client relationships and business getting
  • Research skills including analysis and interpretation of data
  • Attention to detail, accuracy
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy
  • Languages an advantage
  • Role specific experience e.g. Basic knowledge of sales structures
  • Ability to work collaboratively, team player
  • Conscientious
  • Tenacious and resilient
