JOB OVERVIEW

Description

Artnet is the leading international platform to buy, sell, and research art online. We connect millions of collectors globally with the world’s leading galleries and auction houses, with a focus on making the art market more transparent while supporting our partners in growing their business online. 

We are seeking a driven and innovative Specialist at-large in Post-War and Contemporary Art to complement our New York-based Artnet Auctions Team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining client relationships, expanding our network, securing consignments, and drafting and implementing sales campaigns to actively grow our base of buyers, while ensuring a best-in-class client experience. You will be?contributing to the success of the platform by growing revenue and driving sales.

Responsibilities: 

Drive quality and performance of sales 

  • Partner with senior specialists, specialists, and department heads to strategically plan the sales calendar, choose curated themes, and number/value of works for each sale to ensure monthly targets are met 
  • Consign and sell works while building key relationships 
  • Guide junior team members and inform best practices in pricing, negotiation, and client outreach 
  • Oversee the  quality of consignments for each auction? 
  • Keep abreast of current markets, key players, and competitors, while developing a competitive department strategy 
  • Review sales results and evaluate new areas of opportunity to grow the business
  • Cultivate opportunities for private sales 

Build client base and relationships 

  • Develop and foster a network of clients while actively building new, meaningful relationships 
  • Act as a representative of Artnet and build a network of key influencers in the market 
  • Use knowledge and expertise, such as writing articles, giving lectures, and more, to expand Artnet’s presence and create a competitive advantage? 
  • Develop and nurture clients to convert buyers and sellers, focus on growth, retain clients, and build loyalty 

Maximize cross-functional partnerships 

  • Leads by example in terms of  integrity, professionalism, and setting expectations 
  • Cultivates a positive, motivated, and results-driven team atmosphere 
  • Participates in strategy and implementation of marketing initiatives to drive successful sales including email, social media, events, and news 
  • Collaborates with sale operations to improve post-sale handling and maintains strong client relations 
  • Partners with other internal departments to identify and develop cross-selling opportunities 

Profile / Qualifications: 

  • BA in art history, art management, or similar, graduate degree a plus 
  • Approximately 4-8 years of work experience in the contemporary art market as a specialist or business-driver 
  • Experience and extraordinary success in direct client contact and client retention
  • Proven ability to initiate new business while maintaining existing client relationships 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and networking skills 
  • Strong sense of professionalism and discretion 
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, revenue-driven environment 
  • Must be able to?meet?revenue target with growth on a yearly basis 
  • Knowledge of e-commerce platforms and online art sales preferred
  • Interest in data analytics preferred
  • Expertise in one of the following areas are beneficial: African Contemporary market, Middle Eastern market, South and/or East Asian market  
  • Self-starter with the capacity to work in a team environment
