The Team:

We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide.

We work directly with individuals to help them gain the skills, confidence and connections to transform their lives and shape a better world in partnership with the UK. We support them to build networks and explore creative ideas, to learn English, to get a high-quality education and to gain internationally recognised qualifications.

Working with people in over 200 countries and territories, we are on the ground in more than 100 countries. In 2021–22 we reached 650 million people.

The British Council’s core funding model is changing, so more of our work will be focused on the developing world and support of the UK’s overall aid mission. To ensure we can continue to showcase the UK’s creativity in the developed world including the EU, Japan and the Gulf States, we will need to develop new sources of income, including growth in income from private sources, trusts and foundations and contracts. This is supported by the organisation’s charitable status and corporate fundraising capability.

To achieve this, we are building a new fundraising capability. This role supports our work in increasing support from Individual philanthropy and sits alongside work developing a Global Circle of Patrons and similar Circles in India and Hong Kong.

The UK Circle launched in January 2024 and we are looking for the UK Patrons Manager to join the team on a two year fixed term contract.

In collaboration with the Head of Individual Giving and programme leads, devise and implement strategies for acquisition and retention of UK Patrons to ensure we grow overall membership to at least 50 by 2025.
