Late last year, before he was named creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear, multihyphenate Pharrell Williams launched Joopiter, his spin on a modern auction house. This month, the digital-centric auction house has officially announced its next collaborative auction. This time, Pharrell has partnered with his long-time industry friend Sarah Andelman, renowned as the founder of the former iconic Parisian concept store Colette (RIP – the Parisian boutique closed in 2017 ) and the owner of consulting and curating company Just an Idea. Together they present ‘Just Phriends’ an auction that exemplifies the influence of friendship and collaboration.
With the help of Andelman’s curation, the upcoming sale showcases more than 50 unique items, ranging from blue-chip art to exclusive collaborations. These lots, some fresh to the market, consists of rare artworks, culturally significant objects, and exclusive interdisciplinary collaborations. Among the featured artists is Pharrell himself, along with renowned names such as Takashi Murakami, KAWS, Daniel Arsham, Futura, JR, Paola Pivi, Invader, Xavier Veilhan, MSCHF, Chanel, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Richard Mille, and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Notably, “The Simple Things” (2009) by Takashi Murakami and Pharrell Williams will be part of the auction and will be displayed for the first time in Paris.
In a statement on Joopiter’s Instagram, Andelman commented: “I’m very honored by Pharrell’s invitation to write a new chapter on JOOPITER’s platform. We have known each other for such a long time now, we have so many great souvenirs of collaborations at colette. For this unique auction, I immediately thought of bringing together the artists and designers who have a history of working with Pharrell, but also a new generation of talents I love and find relevant in today’s culture, that’s why it’s called Just Phriends.”
Open for global bidding from June 19 to 27, 2023, “Just Phriends” will also have a special public preview in Paris June 20 to 24, during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, accompanied by a Gift Shop pop-up with exclusive, limited edition items.
