How The Kardashians Are Connected To The Art World
Art world domination here they come…
Art Stuff 17 Oct 2019

You may recall a recent article about Scott Disick’s art advisor potential, but did you know that the family that made him famous – the Kardashians – have art world credentials too? They’ve dominated every part of pop culture, so it seems only natural that the art world domination could be next. And, in light of this, we’ve broken down how the Kards are connected to the art world.

Kim

Kim K may seem more fashion than art, but she sure does know how to combine the two. Early on in their relationship, Kim and Kanye made headlines when Mr. West gifted his finance with a Hermes Birkin bag that had been painted by George Condo. And, as an extra bonus, you may be interested to know that Mr Kim Kardashian (Kanye West) often uses artists to design his album covers, with Takashi Murakami and George Condo among his favourites.

In more overt art related content, you should know that Kim has often collaborated with artists in her countless photo-shoots, including with Barbara Kruger for this cover of W Magazine in November 2010.

Khloe

In 2016, Khloe Kardashian posted her favourite piece of “dope feminist art” on her app, an image of Raquel Welch being crucified, taken by Terry O’Neill. “The picture was shot in 1966 to symbolize how Welch was ‘crucified’ by the entertainment industry for her sexuality,” she explained, shutting down anyone who wanted to criticise her for being sacrilegious.

But! Khloe has been known to make art herself – assisted by partner-in-crime Scott Disick of course. The duo pranked her mom Kris Jenner into being interested in a fictitious artist named Art Vandelay, when actually the paintings were made by Khloe herself.

Kourtney

Who remembers that time Kourtney Kardashian thought she found a Modigliani? It was an epic episode in the history of KUWTK. She even hired conservators to value the piece, but it all ended in heartbreak, when it was reported to be a fake. Never mind Kourtney, we still admire you for your foray into art connoisseurship.

Kendall

Recreating art, Kendall Jenner made a film all about performance art with fellow model Gigi Hadid for W Magazine, proving that she knows a thing or two about art history.

Proving that she doesn’t just mimic art, but owns it too, Kendall posted images inside of her new home’s doors on her IG stories, giving us a look inside an art collection we didn’t know existed. The walls are covered in works by William Klein and Lauren Greenfield.

Kylie

From Kylie’s social media, we’ve learnt that the baby of the Kardashian-Jenner clan also has an arty streak too. She has pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Beau Dunn, proving that the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire has a thing for art, as well as beauty products.

In fact, Kylie previously opened up her home to Architectural Digest, giving us a glimpse inside her collection and an opportunity to learn a little about her eye for design. Art works in her collection include pieces by Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol screen prints of Marily Monroe and a KAWS chair for her daughter Stormi.

Kris

From their reality TV series (as well as countless Instagram stories) we’re all familiar with the insides of the Kardashian matriarch’s home. Kris Jenner is worth big bucks, so it should come as no surprise that she owns one of Tracey Emin’s neon’s, work by Yoshitomo Nara and a sculpture polar bear by Jeff Haynes-Leatham.

What’s more, who can forget the time Kris art-shamed Khloe for not recognizing a Jeff Koons balloon dog? The story gets even better, as it was later reported that the balloon dogs on Kris Jenner’s shelf, were not in fact by Koons… oops!

The Whole Family

The family as a whole, are a big source of inspiration for artists. Who isn’t familiar with the Kardashin family Christmas card, often photographed by some of the world’s most famous artists including David LaChapelle. We should also cast our minds back to an episode featuring artist Mr. Brainwash, which featured a painting of the family in the style of Renoir. Like much of the content the Kardashians put out into the world, we’re not sure if we needed it, but it’s out their for everyone to enjoy anyway! Here’s to the Kardashian booth making its presence known at Frieze (or more likely, Art Basel Miami) sometime soon.
