Before there was the sleek design of Apple, there were sleek alarm clocks, sounds systems and shavers by the German electronics brand Braun. The brand`s secret weapon for several decades was Dieter Rams, design guru, now 86.
Back in 1963, he created a leather handbag as a surprise gift for his wife, Ingeborg. Boxy and sleek, it was meant to be seen by the outside world. Now, 55 years later, the 931 (as the bag has been named by Mr. Rams) is finally coming to market.
Rams has teamed up with TSATSAS, an accessories label based in Frankfurt that makes understated, sculptural accessories to create the exclusive leather handbag.
The 931 bag is available in two colors, black and concrete, both with a blue leather lining and silver details. Handcrafted in Germany, the outer is calf, while the lining is lamb nappa and retailing for €900.
