LAUREN PRAKKE
Customized Converse By Day, Highest Heels By Night
Fempire 16 Oct 2015

Customized Converse By Day, Highest Heels By Night
Art Collector, Theatre Producer and Art Productions, London

With such a zealous personality and enthusiasm for contemporary art, Lauren Prakke definitely made her mark in Britain as an art patron. The London-based American has a strong engagement in the art scene being the founder and chair of the Tate Young Patrons group: the institution’s fastest growing network of supporters. She is also the Chairman of the Whitechapel patrons and the founder of Prakke Contemporary, a production and consultancy agency that operates on a project-by-project basis. On top of that, Prakke is a lecturer, writer, advisor, curator and art collector of contemporary art. Her art collection includes works by edgy luminaries such as Thomas Houseago, Wangechi Mutu and Vanessa Beecroft. What is more, her fashion sense reveals her hard working energy and zing in her rock chick wardrobe with her chic leather skirts, white t-shirts and quirky necklaces. Prakke without a doubt rocked our (arty) world with her style.
Read her style talk with us to find out how she is bringing the ‘leg’ out, her favourite Instagram account and why yoga is her necessary extravagance.

What does your ideal working outfit look like?
Balenciaga Motorcycle Jacket, Jane Carr scarf, James Perse V neck t-shirt, Rick Owens long fitted skirt, Lara Bohinc rings, Diane Kordas necklace and my black hat by The Row, which I would sleep with on if I could!
What’s best: heels or flats? Which brand or style?
Customised Converse by day, highest heels by nights – I love Isabel Marant.
What’s your favorite art-related blog or app?
Brett Gorvy on Instagram.

What was the last thing you bought and loved?
An Anthony Vaccarello leather skirt. It’s slashed so it looks like you are missing part of your skirt. I bought 3 colours/fabrics and my friends are now asking me if I’m bringing the ‘leg’ out.
What is/are your personal style signifier(s)/identifier(s)?
A skinny scarf and a Bulgari Serpente watch – that’s it.
What’s your necessary extravagance?
Taking the time to practice yoga.
Three things/products you always need to have in your purse?
I find my keys handy but somehow I am notorious for not remembering that!
What’s your ultimate beauty secret after long working hours?
Sleep and an overdose of Vitamin C.

What in the art world are you most excited about at the moment?
Ai Wei Wei at The Royal Academy – it’s genius. “London Burning, Portraits from a Creative City” is the hottest art book in town. It was released last week at the ICA and it’s a statement when every institutional museum director turns up – not to mention top artists and curators.
Most sexiest art person?
Andreas Siegfried.
Where are you off to next?
I will leave before the end of Frieze and crawl to my yoga retreat in Germany and then straight to chill on the beach in Bodrum. I am counting down the minutes!
Where is your next art trip/travel going to be?
Art Basel Miami, then on to L.A. to check out the scene there.
In your eyes: what is the most arty city?
Ooh good question. I would say Paris as a whole, in terms of architecture and history, and NYC for its museums and contemporary art scene.
Someone you have in mind to call the perfect artworld gentlemen?
Neil Wenman and Richard Chang.
Which artists should we have on our watchlist?
Hannah Perry,  Mira Dancy and Zoe Buckman.
