You may remember her as the actress who starred in Eyes Wide Shut, but Leelee Kimmel (nee Sobieski) has taken flight as an artist in recent years, and we couldn’t be happier.
For her upcoming solo show “Nuwar” at Almine Rech Paris opening June 6 and her first show with the gallery, she’s showing new acrylic paintings in her trademark colorful abstract style, which fuses worm-like figures on psychedelic and glittery backgrounds.
How else to put it?
“Leelee Kimmel’s paintings are investigations of inner and outer space, collisions between ur-ancient, chthonic nature and the hyper-sophisticated realm of modernist and postmodernist art histories, between the preverbal and the phantasmagoria of the library, terse and voluble, suddenly laughing then stonily silent,” says the writer David Rimanelli.
